ABOUT SHAMROCK SHUFFLE TRAINING PLANS
The Shamrock Shuffle has marked the start of the Chicagoland racing season since its first running in 1980. The race is held near St. Patrick's Day in late March, but you can start your Shamrock Shuffle training plan today. Custom Training Plans has created personalized Shamrock Shuffle training schedules for runners at all levels. At 8K, you'll want to train for the Shamrock Shuffle in a different way than you might for a 5K or 10K. Custom Training Plans worked with professional trainers to build a customizable Shamrock Shuffle training plan focused on building cardiovascular fitness. Following a complete training plan that focuses on all-around fitness can help you avoid overtraining injuries as race day nears.
The Shamrock Shuffle starts in Millennium Park. Runners who have taken part in the Chicago Marathon festivities will recognize the start line – the location is also used by the Shamrock Shuffle. Upon departing, the race runs under the Columbus Drive Tunnel and then over the Chicago River. The route crosses back again on State Street and continues south to the campus of Depaul University. There, the route turns toward the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and City Hall. Runners reach the 5K mark shortly after they turn onto Franklin Street, leaving just 3K to go. The race then heads back toward Grant Park, where the course skirts the park’s western border on Michigan Avenue. The race finishes in the park after climbing “Mount Roosevelt,” the course’s only notable elevation change. CTP’s Shamrock Shuffle training plans help you prepare for course features like these, adding hill repeats and intervals to help increase power and endurance.
Our 12-week Shamrock Shuffle training plan can help you feel ready to line up at Millennium Park. Using a training plan as unique as you are can help you reach for your Shamrock Shuffle goals, no matter what they are.

Our method
-
With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
-
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
-
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
