The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend begins on Friday morning with the Disney Princess 5K. All three courses start and finish at Epcot, and the 5K and the 10K courses are located entirely on the Epcot grounds, making these races easy for family and friends to spectate. The 5K course is centered on Epcot and World Showcase. Runners line up facing Epcot, then skirt the grounds before touring World Showcase. The route loops back to the east side of Epcot and the finish line, right in front of the gates.
The Disney Princess Enchanted 10K is run on Saturday morning, and its course also revolves around the Epcot grounds. The 10K route begins at Epcot and circles the grounds before leading runners into World Showcase. The route follows the shore of the lagoon, allowing runners to take in World Showcase and a brief tour of the Epcot resorts’ beaches before closing the loop by returning to the finish line outside the front gates.
Because Orlando is at sea level, the 5K and 10K routes are particularly good for beginners. Disney races are well-known for having a low-pressure, beginner-friendly atmosphere, and veterans say there are few better places to run your first race. The weekend’s main event is the Disney Princess Half Marathon on Sunday. Featuring another flat course, it’s equally appealing to beginners and experienced half marathoners. As in the 5K and 10K, the race begins across from Epcot. Even in February, the Orlando heat can be oppressive, so racers line up at the start before the sun rises. Despite the early hour, the convivial, cheerful crowd keeps the energy high as fireworks bloom for each start wave, and the half marathoners are off. Instead of circling the World Showcase lagoon, the half marathon route heads straight for the Magic Kingdom. When the course reaches the Magic Kingdom, runners turn down Main Street, U.S.A., which is lined with friends and family cheering on their loved ones. The course takes runners past the Mad Tea Party and the Prince Charming Regal Carrousel on the way to Princess Fairytale Hall. As the race leaves the Magic Kingdom, it passes the Cinderella Wishing Well. The halfway point arrives about a mile after runners bid farewell to the Magic Kingdom, and the remainder of the course remains flat all the way to the finish line back at Epcot.
