ABOUT BROOKLYN HALF MARATHON TRAINING PLANS
The Brooklyn Half Marathon has been held on a Saturday in late May since 1980. Approximately 30,000 runners are chosen via a lottery system to take part, making this the biggest half marathon in the country. It's also one of the most coveted start-line spots among runners: in the past few years, registration has sold out within hours of opening. If you're lucky enough to get in, Custom Training Plans can help you prepare to run a stronger race. Our Brooklyn Half Marathon training programs incorporate interval training, cross-training, and mobility work along with running workouts tailored to your current fitness level. A comprehensive, customized Brooklyn Half Marathon training plan can help you stay injury-free as you prepare for your journey to Coney Island.
The Brooklyn Half Marathon is equally friendly for beginners and experienced racers, so no matter what your previous half marathon experience may be, you’ll be in good company. Though there are free half marathon training plans available, the “plan” frequently turns out to be a mileage schedule and not much more. To run your best race, you need the kind of Brooklyn Half Marathon training programs that can be personalized to your current level of fitness and previous running experience. CTP works with professional trainers to create half marathon training plans created for everyone, helping beginners to avoid burnout and increasing speed and power in avid runners.
The race is run on a course that’s fairly evenly divided between small, rolling hills and flat, straight roads. The race starts near the Brooklyn Museum, where thick crowds of cheering spectators see the race off. The route runs past the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and loops around Grand Army Plaza before taking a tour of Prospect Park. This section of the race features small hills with minor elevation changes, but even these can cause trouble for racers who are not accustomed to rolling terrain. The biggest climb comes just before mile 5, and veterans say that it can make or break a race. If you’re prepping for this race, you need a Brooklyn Half Marathon training plan that gets you ready to crush the hills with energy to spare.
After a loop around the park, runners exit onto Ocean Parkway to begin the second half of the race. Racers crest a small hill as they leave the shady hills of Prospect Park for a long, flat cruise toward Coney Island. By this time, the cool May morning has given way to strong springtime sunshine, making the five miles straight down Ocean Parkway a challenge for both your mental and physical endurance. Successful training for a half marathon goes above and beyond mileage schedules.
Brooklyn Half Marathon training plans from CTP prepare you for course-specific features. We incorporate safe, effective workouts designed to build up your power to conquer hills and increase your endurance for the flats. Our Brooklyn Half Marathon training plans can help chart your path to a triumphant finish on the boardwalk.

With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
