ABOUT COWTOWN MARATHON TRAINING PLANS
The Cowtown Marathon is held on the last weekend of February each year in Fort Worth, Texas. Since its first running in 1978, the Cowtown Marathon has added a number of additional distances, including a half marathon, 10K race, and 5K race. The race's latest addition is a 50K ultramarathon. No matter which race you've chosen to run, it's important to follow a program that prepares you for not only the distance but also for the course itself. Custom Training Plans offers training programs that prepare you for course-specific features during workouts that are tailored to you. Each of our Cowtown Marathon training plans, Cowtown Half Marathon training plans, Cowtown 10K training plans, and Cowtown 5K training plans provide you with workouts that are geared toward your present fitness level, reducing the risk of overtraining injuries that can stop your race before it starts.
The 5K and 10K races start the weekend off on Saturday morning. Both courses start and end next to the Will Rogers Memorial Center. The 5K course presents runners with very gentle inclines and descents, taking runners on a brief tour of Trinity Park and the Fort Worth Botanic Garden before looping back to Will Rogers. The 10K, on the other hand, immediately presents racers with a few rolling hills as they make their way up north to Rockwood Park. As the route heads back toward the finish, the hills flatten out, allowing runners to recover and check their pace before returning to Will Rogers. Our Cowtown 5K training plan or Cowtown 10K training plan can help you get ready for the hills.
On Sunday, the Cowtown Marathon, Half Marathon, and 50K Ultramarathon are held. Again, each of the courses starts and ends at Will Rogers Memorial Center. From there, the 50K, 26.2, and 13.1 runners start out on a downhill leading into Trinity Park before threading through the Linwood, Crestwood, and Belmont Terrace neighborhoods on the city’s north side. Near mile 6, the course arrives at the Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District, home to the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.
After leaving the stockyards, runners pass the Tarrant County Courthouse and hit the route’s steepest hill between miles 9 and 10. There, the course for the half marathon diverges to bring runners back to the Will Rogers Center for the finish. The marathon and 50K continue south on a winding route through the neighborhoods of Fort Worth, including a trip through the campus of TCU before reaching Foster Park, where the race turns back toward the finish. The 50K splits from the marathon route at mile 25 to tack on nearly five miles through Trinity and Heritage Parks before finishing up with the rest of the field at the Main Street finish line.
Whether or not this is your first rodeo, you can take your race prep above and beyond with a program from Custom Training Plans. Each of our Cowtown Marathon training plans, Cowtown Half Marathon training plans, Cowtown 10K training plans, and Cowtown 5K training plans give you cross-training and running workouts designed to help you train safely.

Our method
-
With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
-
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
-
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
