ABOUT ARMY TEN MILER TRAINING PLANS
Since 1985, the Army Ten-Miler has been run in Washington, D.C., every October. This 10-mile race is one of the largest races of this distance in the U.S., attracting over 35,000 runners from all four branches of the U.S. Military, their families and friends, and members of the general public. If you're getting ready to run this race, you'll want to find an Army Ten-Miler training program that really works. If you want to use a professionally developed 10-mile program that can help you avoid injury, choose Custom Training Plans. We prepare you for your race with Army Ten-Miler training plans that are customized to fit your current fitness level, whether you're just reporting for duty or you're an experienced veteran.
It’s important to be ready when registration for the Army Ten-Miler opens. Active and former members of the military are given priority, and general registration opens to the public subsequently. Those who are fortunate enough to snag a starting spot must prepare to compete against some of the fittest people in the country. If the thought of this leaves you quaking in your combat boots, turn to CTP. Our Army Ten-Miler training plans are tailored to your present level of fitness, the amount of previous racing experience you have, and the course-specific features of the race you’re aiming for.
The Army Ten-Miler is a D.C. tradition, and on race day, the city comes out to celebrate and honor the Armed Forces. You’ll be in good company – not only is this race one of the biggest in the U.S., but it’s also the third-largest 10-mile race in the world! The course’s elevation changes only slightly as it passes some of Washington’s most famous monuments, making the Army Ten-Miler an equally great place for novices and experienced racers. Custom Training Plans’ Army Ten-Miler training programs are designed to help you take advantage of the cool October weather and the flat terrain.
The race begins at the Pentagon and heads north along the Potomac. Just after mile 2, the route crosses the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Runners then travel south for another two miles, passing the Watergate Hotel before turning onto the National Mall. The route then rounds the Lincoln Memorial and heads east on the Mall toward the U.S. Capitol. Those who dedicate themselves to training before lining up will be able to think of this section of the race as a running tour of the nation’s capital. The route takes you past the World War II Memorial, the Washington Monument, and circles the Smithsonian before turning onto I-395 for the last couple of miles. If you’ve prepared with a customized Army Ten-Miler training plan, you should have more than enough gas in the tank to arrive back at the Pentagon feeling strong.
The Army Ten-Miler’s beginner-friendly course, well-organized logistics, and cool October temperatures make it one to add to the bucket list, no matter what your current race-readiness may be. Try Custom Training Plans to see for yourself what a customized approach to training can do for you.

Our method
-
With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
-
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
-
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
