Set at the picturesque Bear Lake, this marathon weekend in early June is a special one because it allows for people to run three races in three different states in three days. The first marathon is in Idaho, followed by Utah and then Wyoming. With the exception of the Utah race, which is mixed terrain both Idaho and Wyoming races take place on the road.

Bear Lake Marathon Training Plans

This is the perfect setting for runners looking to fill their bucket lists with races in all 50 states. Runners can choose between marathons or half marathons in each state or can combine all three states for the trifecta.

All start and finish lines for the three races are within a 45 minute drive from each other, which makes for simple traveling logistics and recovery between races.  Many people choose to stay at the Waters Edge Resort properties or at other local locations in Garden City, Utah or Montpelier, Idaho. Bear Lake is approximately 2 hours north of Salt Lake City, 2 hours southeast of Pocatello and 2 hours south of Jackson Hole.

All of the marathons feature over 1,000 feet of elevation gain and are out and back marathons. They Wyoming marathon is a gradual uphill to the halfway point and then traces itself back downhill to the finish while the Idaho and Utah routes feature more varied elevation changes. Hopefully you won’t be thinking too much about it with beautiful scenery throughout, especially along Bear Lake.
