ABOUT BOILERMAKER ROAD RACE TRAINING PLANS
In 1978, the Boilermaker Road Race had its inaugural running with 800 competitors lining up to race the 15K course. Since then, the event has expanded to include the Boilermaker 5K. It's now one of the largest 15K races in the country, and it's the city of Utica's largest annual event. Every year on the second Sunday in July, thousands of competitors line up to take on this challenging course. The hot weather makes it especially important for you to train for this race, as racing in warmer conditions can affect your performance. Whether you're signing up for your first 5K or you're a Boilermaker veteran, proper training is a must. Custom Training Plans can help you prepare for the race with Boilermaker Road Race training programs designed to increase strength, power, and cardiovascular endurance. Each plan is customized to fit not only your own fitness level but the demands of the course you're running as well. Our Boilermaker 15K training plans and Boilermaker 5K training plans can help you get ready to conquer the hills by leading you through workouts at the right intensity for you, helping you avoid injury and burnout during your journey to the start line.
Both the 15K and 5K Boilermaker courses are tough, requiring runners to be ready for a lot of ups and downs. Our training plans include running workouts that prepare you for the hills by incorporating hill repeats, sprints, and intervals to increase your power and endurance. This course is known as one of the most challenging 15K courses in the country. The 15K starts with a long uphill – in fact, runners climb around 300 feet over the first four miles before losing nearly all of their gains over the next two miles. The 5K course gets in on the fun near mile marker 6, where they join the 15K pack. Over the next mile, runners will face another sharp climb before the course heads downhill. Don’t be fooled, though – there’s one more gradual rise before the finish line. A CTP training plan prepares you for the course’s unique obstacles, so there will be no surprises on race day. Once runners reach the 9-mile mark, it’s time to celebrate, because it’s all downhill from there.
Training for the Boilermaker Road Race 15K or 5K with Custom Training Plans can help you make steady progress as race day approaches. Our training programs meet you where you are, not where a generic plan thinks you should be. Every Custom Training Plans session is geared toward preparing you for the hills with workouts that fit the racecourse, your goals, and your current fitness level. Whether you choose a Boilermaker 15K training plan or a Boilermaker 5K training plan, you’ll get cross-training and mobility workouts in addition to your running workouts to help you prepare for the Boilermaker Road Race of your choice. No matter what your goals for your race might be, you can trust CTP to get you ready to climb the hills of Utica.

With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
