ABOUT COOPER RIVER BRIDGE RUN TRAINING PLANS
For over 40 years, the Cooper River Bridge Run has been an indication of spring's arrival in Charleston, South Carolina. Set on the first weekend in April, the Cooper River Bridge Run is the United States' third-largest 10K. If you're one of the lucky runners preparing for the start line in Mount Pleasant, train smarter, not harder. Custom Training Plans offers a personalized Cooper River Bridge Run training program that's tailored to your needs and the race itself. Our Cooper River Bridge Run training plans provide safe and comprehensive workouts created for runners of all levels, from first-timers to old-timers.
The Cooper River Bridge Run begins in Mount Pleasant, a beautiful town just across the Cooper River from Charleston. Once runners leave the starting line, they will weave through the relatively flat streets of Mount Pleasant for about two miles before encountering the Cooper River Bridge Run’s crown jewel: the 2.5-mile-long Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. The bridge offers incomparable views of downtown Charleston, and the climb to its zenith is the Bridge Run’s most difficult section. This climb rises about 200 feet in under one mile, and its intensity separates those who have trained from those who have not. If you choose to train, you can benefit even further by following a CTP Cooper River Bridge Run training plan. Our customized plans help you prepare for specific course features with workouts designed to build the strength you’ll need to rise to the challenge.
Once you reach the apex of the bridge, it’s all downhill. The grade coming down the Charleston side of the bridge is lesser than on the Mount Pleasant side. Here, many racers pick up the pace unintentionally by allowing gravity to hustle them toward the finish – a classic mistake that can lead to cramping, fatigue, or even injury. Our Cooper River Bridge Run training plans help you arrive at the finish line safely by addressing the descents as well as the climbs. The last two miles of the race travel through downtown Charleston, where the streets are lined with spectators offering racers bacon, doughnuts, and other treats. The festive atmosphere is a big part of the Cooper River Bridge Run, and training with CTP can help you take in every moment of your journey to the finish line at Marion Square.
At CTP, our goal is to take your training above and beyond the free 10K training plans you can find online. When you choose Custom Training Plans, you get a Cooper River Bridge Run training plan that’s tailored to match your current level of fitness, your goals, and course features unique to the Cooper River Bridge Run – benefits that free 10K training schedules simply can’t match. Our custom plans help you chart a sensible course toward the start line by gradually building strength and endurance in new racers and giving advanced racers the tools they need to reach for faster finishes. Experience the advantages of a professionally developed Cooper River Bridge Run training plan.

Our method
-
With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
-
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
-
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
