ABOUT DETROIT MARATHON TRAINING PLANS
On the third Sunday in October each year, nearly 20,000 people come together in Detroit, Michigan, to take part in the Detroit Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K. The Detroit Marathon's comfortable autumn temperatures make these races appealing for beginners and seasoned racers. No matter what your chosen distance may be, Custom Training Plans can help you prepare to run 5K, 13.1, or 26.2 with a training program that factors in your experience level and the terrain of the race you're running. Our Detroit Marathon training plans, Detroit Half Marathon training plans, and Detroit 5K training plans can help you arrive at the start injury-free and ready to race.
The mellow weather flat course make Detroit a great place to take on a new distance. CTP offers customized training schedules for runners of all levels, whether you’re interested in starting your first 5K, stepping up to the half marathon, or reaching for a new personal record in the marathon.
The 5K begins the weekend’s festivities on Saturday morning. Racers line up next to Milliken State Park in downtown Detroit. The route is largely flat and is split equally between city streets and green paths along the Detroit RiverWalk. The 5K is a great introduction to racing, and many of the next day’s competitors take part in the 5K as well.
On Sunday, the marathon and half marathons kick off early in the morning. The marathon and international half-marathon cross into Canada via the Ambassador Bridge, which is also the biggest hill in the race. After a few miles in Canada, the race returns to the U.S. via the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, where Border Patrol agents high-five runners as they pass by. At this point, international half marathon runners will turn toward the finish. Marathoners will go on to visit Indian Village and Belle Isle State Park via the MacArthur Bridge, a route shared by the U.S.-only half marathon. After crossing back over the bridge, runners have only 5K left before arriving at the finish line in downtown Detroit.
Race preparation is vital to your success, but not all race prep is created equally. With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.
We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.
Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
