ABOUT LAS VEGAS MARATHON TRAINING PLANS
The first running of the Las Vegas Marathon was in 1967, making this race one of the oldest marathons in the U.S. Over the years, half marathon, 10K, and 5K races were added, and the Las Vegas Marathon became part of the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series in 2009. Today, more than 35,000 runners come to Nevada to hit the holiday season running, making it the largest of the Rock 'n' Roll events.
The Las Vegas Marathon equally welcoming to first-time marathoners as it is to race veterans. Custom Training Plans creates training programs unique to each race that can be further customized to suit your current level of fitness, your race goals, and more. We offer Las Vegas Marathon training plans, Las Vegas Half Marathon training plans, Las Vegas 10K training plans, and Las Vegas 5K training plans for athletes of all levels. Following a CTP Las Vegas Marathon training program is a safe way to increase your fitness, helping you to avoid injuries that can be caused by over- or undertraining.
The Las Vegas Marathon is run each year in late November or early December, making this race a particularly attractive choice for runners living in northern climes. The fun-filled atmosphere of Las Vegas also makes for a unique experience, and runners participating in the Las Vegas 5K on Saturday will be the first to get a taste of the town. Bright lights and upbeat music accompany runners on a brief tour of Las Vegas. The flat course and celebratory atmosphere make this 5K an unforgettable racing experience. Whether this is your racing debut or simply a preview for tomorrow’s races, you can increase your odds of a great finish by increasing your overall fitness and readiness to run using a CTP Las Vegas 5K training plan.
The Las Vegas 10K kicks off the festivities on Sunday afternoon, and like the 5K, it’s a beginner-friendly race on a flat and well-maintained course. This is the first glimpse that runners will get at portions of the marathon course, and it’s a course unlike any other. The 10K route begins just south of the Stratosphere and heads toward downtown Las Vegas. Just after the Courthouse, the route makes a 180 and turns back toward the Strip, where runners finish in front of the Mirage. The mild weather and flat course create ideal conditions for beginners and experienced racers alike. Using a CTP Las Vegas 10K training plan can help you focus on your goals with a customized roadmap to the finish line.
The Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon starts next to the MGM Grand in the evening, just as the sun goes down and the lights of the Strip begin to glitter. The Las Vegas Marathon is truly like no other. From running on the Strip at night to the elaborate costumes and, of course, the run-thru wedding, it’s an experience not to be missed. The start sends the marathon and half marathon runners down the Strip at a slight incline for two miles. There, the route makes a U-turn to send runners back up the Strip toward downtown Las Vegas following the 10K route. As runners leave the downtown area, the marathon and half marathon courses diverge at the 10-mile marker.
The courses of the marathon and half marathon are significantly different, so a Las Vegas Half Marathon training plan should take a different approach to training. The half marathon course is run almost entirely on Las Vegas Boulevard, and it is very flat with just a handful of turns. Those training for the half marathon can afford to let the decline between miles 2 and 9 up their pace because there’s very little to conserve one’s energy for. CTP’s Las Vegas Half Marathon training plans are tailored to the course, so your workouts build the fitness you need to take full advantage of this course feature.
On the other hand, the marathon course leaves Las Vegas Boulevard for a labyrinth-like detour into the streets just off the Strip. The additional distance means that going too hard during the first half of the race can leave you with too little for the second half, so a Las Vegas Marathon training plan needs to prepare you to stick to a consistent pace. This section also contains a multitude of turns, with the course doubling back on itself with switchbacks and other tight turns. Las Vegas Marathon training plans from CTP incorporate mobility workouts, helping you to build stability so you’re more likely to stay injury-free.
The Las Vegas Marathon experience is a bucket-list item for runners from all over the world. If you’re prepping for one of these races, Custom Training Plans offers course-specific, customized Las Vegas Marathon training plans, Las Vegas Half Marathon training plans, Las Vegas 10K training plans, and Las Vegas 5K training plans to help you train effectively.
