ABOUT SHAMROCK RUN TRAINING PLANS

Founded in 1979, the Shamrock Run Portland is the largest running event in the state of Oregon. More than 20,000 participants gather on a Sunday near St. Patrick's Day to run a 5K, 8K, 15K, or half marathon. You don't need to rely on the luck of the Irish to get you to the finish line, though - Custom Training Plans can help you prepare with a customized Shamrock Run Portland training plan. Our Shamrock Run Portland training programs consider your current level of fitness, race goals, and the course itself to help you build the kind of cardiovascular strength and endurance you'll need.

Shamrock Run Training Plans

The Shamrock Half Marathon starts at Pine Street and runs north before returning south near Nicolai. The course continues south past Pine Street and then joins the Shamrock 15K route, climbing the Terwilliger incline up to OHSU and running through the Barbur Tunnel. Once runners reach mile 5.5, it’s all downhill to the finish in front of the cheering crowds at the Waterfront.

The Shamrock 5K and 8K routes skip the Terwilliger climb, and both are out-and-back courses starting at SW Pine and Naito Parkway on the Waterfront. The 8K runners will head north on Naito, passing the Burnside, Steel, Broadway, and Fremont Bridges before reversing course, and the 5K route returns to the finish after runners pass Tilikum Crossing. Both courses end on Naito Parkway in front of a cheering crowd.

Whether you’re taking part in the 5K, 8K, 15K, or half marathon, Custom Training Plans can help you get ready for the race you’re about to run. For example, our Shamrock Run Portland 15K training plans and Shamrock Run Portland half marathon training plans include hill training workouts to prepare you for the Terwilliger climb. Every CTP Shamrock Run Portland training plan, including Shamrock Run Portland 5K training plans and Shamrock Run Portland 8K training plans, incorporates workouts that are tailored to fit you, your goals, and the race. Our method

  1. Certified Coaches

With the expertise of USATF certified coaches and physical therapists, we built an advanced model to weigh the effects of runner-specific variables on training outcomes.

  2. Custom Race Profile

We analyzed unique characteristics of hundreds of races across the country to build a “race profile” into our model that accounts for elevation gain, altitude, time of year, and more.

  3. Training Plan Model

Our model generates a unique training plan for you and your race, and all plans are reviewed by a coach and hand-tweaked before they make their way to you.
